Creating My Own Residency

In January 2025, I launched The Light Returns Residency, a self-funded, self-structured creative experiment.

Drawing on twelve years of experience running a yoga studio, coaching business, and full-time art practice, I designed a residency that blended discipline, devotion, and creative joy.

I invited patrons to support the project—offering behind-the-scenes access, process videos, prints, artist talk, and small originals—and in return, they helped fund my materials and time.

The result?

  • 12 patrons joined and funded the residency with $2,100.

  • 20 new works created.

  • 7 pieces sold (3 in the first week).

  • 1 piece selected for an exhibition at the Greensboro Center for Visual Artists.

That residency shifted everything.
It proved that structure, community, and storytelling could sustain a creative life.

The Spark That Followed

Through that experience, I learned that art flourishes in community.
But there was one thing missing: The exchange of ideas, the encouragement that comes from seeing other artists take themselves—and their craft—seriously.

That realization became the seed for something bigger:
The Creative Press Residency Collective.

The Creative Press Residency Collective

That’s why I’m launching the 2025/2026 Winter Cohort of The Creative Press Residency, bringing together artists who want to create, connect, and sell their work in a structured, supportive environment.

It’s part creative sprint, part business incubator, part soulful reset.
From December 10th-February 20th you’ll…

  • Treat your art practice like your full-time job.

  • Develop a cohesive body of work.

  • Learn to share your process authentically.

  • Build real relationships with collectors.

  • Sell your art through storytelling, not pressure.

I provide the framework, coaching, and marketing tools that made my first residency successful.
You bring your creativity, commitment, and willingness to do the work.

Why It Matters

The work you do during this mentorship/residency doesn’t just create art—it builds momentum for the entire year.
You’ll emerge with finished pieces, new confidence, a network of fellow artists, and the skills to sustain both your art and your income.

This isn’t just about making art.
It’s about building a life where creativity and success coexist beautifully.

Join Us

If you’re craving structure, accountability, and community…
If you’re ready to take yourself—and your art—seriously…
If you want to create, connect, and sell from a place of authenticity…

Then this is for you.

The Moment Everything Changed

In late 2024, I applied for a residency in France for the 2025 season.
When the “not this time” email arrived, I felt crushed.
I wanted the space to create freely, the legitimacy of being “chosen,” the inspiration that comes from new places and new people.

But then I realized something simple and powerful:
I didn’t have to wait to be chosen. I could choose myself.
